9 Ways to Indulge Your Senses When It's Still Icy AF Outside
Spring is literally around the corner, but it sure as heck doesn’t feel like it. In the meantime, I’ve taken to barricading myself in the house to try and wait it out until a.) The weather breaks or b.) I can make a break for it back down south of the border. Until a plan emerges for my next great escape, or spring decides to stand up and kick winter in the snowballs, here’s a few indulgences I’ll be relying upon to get me through.
Drink something hot & rich
On the bright side of these blustery temps is that hot toddy's, spiked hot chocolate and extra spicy chai tea lattes (with almond milk, of course) is still plentiful. There’s nothing like nursing a warm and decadent beverage under the covers at 7p.m. (C’monnn, Daylight Savings Time)
Netflix Binge
There’s no friend quite like Netflix and your fave blanket to keep you company when you “just can’t” at the thought of going outside.
Make some comfort food
Soups, chili, pasta, and baked goods are the ultimate comfort foods that make hibernation worth baring. If ever there were a time to carb up, this is it. Let your spring and summer body worry about itself. And if you feel that concerned about packing on pounds, make a routine out of doing some squats, push-ups, crunches, or better yet-- burpees in between Netflix episodes.
Take a nap
Think back to all of the naps that you avoided taking when you were younger. Don’t you kinda wish you had a reserve of the naps that you willing fought against to pull from now that you could REALLY use one?
Read a book
When is the last time you let yourself get lost in another world? Books are the original way to tune the world out on a binge. Except, reading makes you fundamentally smarter (unless your favorite genre is trash novels-- in which case, we're not judging). At least you have the attention span to push through it-- which means you're doing far better than the majority of society.
Have a detox bath bath
And since life is all about balance, for all that indulging, there must be room for a good detox. The healing power of water cannot be overstated. A nice long soak in a pink himalayan salt bath with a few drops of lavender or rose oil and flower petals at the new or full moon is soothing and helps to stimulate the senses, purify the body, and clear the mind.
Talk on the phone with a friend and catch up
There's nothing like connecting with loved ones. Yes, it’s easy to log into FB or IG and send each other funny memes all day, but that’s no substitute for picking up the phone for a gab session. The colder months are hard on folks. And you never know, your voice might be just what your sister, bestie, cousin, etc. needs to hear to pick them up out of a slump. Plus, how else are you gonna find out the latest juicy family gossip?
Have sex or masturbate
I can't think of anything better or more satisfying than a romp in the sheets to naturally turn up the heat when the weather won’t let you be great. Plus, that afterglow will have you looking like you just OD’d on sunshine-- but from a different kind of vitamin D. *wink, wink*
Plan your next getaway
Spring break is on the horizon... and nothing can pull me out of my cold weather funk like the promise of the tropical sun kissing my face and my toes in the sand. I'm literally counting down the days until I can get back to Mexico for this upcoming Luna Rising Retreat my Sisters in Spirit and I have planned. Maybe we'll see you there???
