Check out a few great diet tips for healthy, glowing skin courtesy of The Mane Source:
The skin (or epidermis) is the largest organ of the body. It is important that we care for it properly to ensure that it is in tip-top shape and remains that way. Generally, when people think about skincare, they think about products. Moisturizers, toners, masks, exfoliating creams– these are all essential steps in any skincare regimen. However, contrary to popular belief, what you put in your mouth, whether by eating or drinking, is just as important as what you put on your skin.
Eat your way to beautiful skin by eating this and NOT that:
DON’T Eat…
…a ton of junk food. It’s okay to have a little junk food here and there, but a diet that is heavy in unhealthy junk foods will wreak havoc on your skin. Junk food generally has a high content of sodium, sugars, and even chemicals. These ingredients can cause a loss of elasticity, result in breakouts, and cause premature aging of the skin.
DO Eat….
…more fruits and veggies. Instead of grabbing a bag of chips for a snack, munch on cucumber slices. Cucumbers are high in antioxidants and have a high water content. Eating cucumbers will nourish your skin from the inside out.

DON’T Eat…
…”dead” vegetables. What is a dead vegetable? A vegetable that has been boiled, steamed, baked, etc. While delicious and a healthier option than many foods, your skin doesn’t get to benefit from their full nutritional properties, as cooking the vegetables depletes the nutrients.
DO Eat…
…”living” or raw vegetables. Eating raw broccoli and green, yellow, and red peppers delivers vitamin C directly to your skin. While vitamin C is most known for curing or preventing colds, it also protects the skin from damage from free radicals and aids in collagen repair. Avocados contain large doses of vitamin E. Vitamin E not only nourishes the skin, but it also protects it from damage caused by harmful UV rays. Vegetables like carrots, spinach, kale (dark leafy greens) are high in beta carotene. The body absorbs beta carotene quickly and easily and turns it into vitamin A. All of these vitamins and nutrients found in “live” vegetables work keep skin healthy and beautiful.
