Sassy Appétit: Grillin' & Chillin'- BBQ For The Sassy Vegetarian
Although I’m technically a pescatarian (working my way to raw vegan), going to BBQs have come to be less than exciting for me because of the usual lack of food options. It used to be a joy to go to someone else’s place to pig out. These days, I usually eat before I go to avoid disappointment and the subsequent awkward, furrowed brow from hosts/hostesses as they insist that I partake in their garden salad, pasta salad, potato salad and whatever other salad they happen to have on hand.
It’s quite bizarre to me that people find my choice to eat vegetables strange. Based on the perplexed looks I get when asked, “Well, what do you eat?” and the bewildered look in their eyes when it comes to what to serve… it seems that a list and some tips to help y'all out might be useful.
This one’s for my vegetarians/pescatarians and the peeps that love us enough to make sure we don’t starve this 4th of July!
BBQ Cabbage is a delicious crowd-pleaser that all will enjoy.
Grilled Corn with Chipotle-lime butter
Grilled Portabella Mushroom Burger (or sub with a Flame Grilled Boca Patty/Salmon Burger)
Yearning for some spice in your veggie life? Blaze the grill with a few Field Roast Mexican Chipotle links. WARNING: Not for the faint-hearted, these spicy grains mean business.
Fish tacos Bobby Flay-style. If these tacos are good enough for the king of the grill, they’re sure to be good enough for your pescatarian guests.
Grilled Ratatouille: Hands down, this is by far my favorite grilled veggie treat. I’ve made this dish numerous times, and it is a winner. Even the meat-eaters will come back for seconds. Trust.
Happy Grilling!
